Volunteer Job Descriptions

KITCHEN – FOOD PREP (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) Monday – Friday
We require two people each day to support our chefs in preparing meals for our community center’s dining room. This volunteer position also supports the Meals on Wheels program.

Onsite training provided and duties may include chopping vegetables, peeling potatoes, dessert preparation and much more. If you enjoy kitchen work, in a supportive team setting, consider this volunteer opportunity.

KITCHEN – DISHES (9:00 am – 12:00 pm or 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm) Monday – Friday
Each shift works in a team of two, and sometimes three, to run our automatic dishwasher. Pre-washing of pots, pans and utensils is required. Volunteers are trained on site and are a valued part of our kitchen team.

MEALS ON WHEELS KITCHEN FOOD PREPARATION (8:00 – 10:00 am) Monday – Friday
This volunteer position works in a team of three and assists us in packaging and preparing the meals for our courier and driver teams.  Onsite training provided and includes portioning desserts and salads, wrapping containers and any other prep jobs as directed by our chefs.

LUNCH SERVER (11:30 am -1:30 pm) Monday – Friday
This is volunteer position serves the daily lunch menu prepared by our kitchen staff. If you are a people person and would like to get to know your LSCO community, this is an excellent volunteer role. Onsite training provided.

SPECIAL MEAL EVENTS: Various Opportunities
LSCO dining room caters events for members or groups within our community. Assistance is needed to set tables, food service delivery and post event table bussing. These events usually take place on weekdays, in the morning or early afternoon.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER
In 2019, LSCO served over 800 meals to our community. Most of these meals are served in our dining room; however, we also send out meals to our first responders who work on Christmas Day. This past year over 100 volunteers gave their time and energy to this very special free meal. Planning for this event begins months in advance. If you are interested in volunteering for this event please contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Volunteers are needed to assist us in a variety of activities and events such as holiday decorating and assisting in raffles or in house fundraising to support our LSCO community. If you are creative, crafty or have a musical talent please considering volunteering with us.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Volunteers in this role support the LSCO staff with activities such as data entry, scheduling building and office type work. Opportunities vary, please contact the volunteer coordinator.

LSCO BOUTIQUE
Volunteers are required Monday to Friday from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm or 12:30 – 3:00 pm to sell hand-crafted items in the Boutique. Volunteers are required to handle cash and greet customers.

NEWSPAPER DELIVERY
Volunteers are required once a month to deliver newspapers throughout the city in their own vehicles. Drivers and helpers are needed.

WINNERS BINGO
Every Monday & Thursday from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm LSCO runs the bingo program at Winners Bingo to raise money for the centre. Volunteers are needed to help at the bingo hall. Activities range from selling bingo cards to counting money in a smoke free environment.

Rides can be arranged for those needing one from their home and back again.

IN-HOUSE BINGO
LSCO runs a Bingo every Wednesday from 10:00 – 3:00 pm. At times volunteers are needed to call or sell bingo cards.

MEMBER SERVICES
Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to sit at the reception desk to offer a friendly “Good Day” to members and the general public upon entering the centre. Volunteers can also assist people when signing in with their key cards (fobs).

LSCO MEALS ON WHEELS
A team of 2 people  (one driver and one courier) is assigned to each route to deliver meals to clients in their homes. Meals are picked up at 10:30 am each morning and deliveries are complete by 1:00 pm.

Each volunteer who delivers meals as a driver or courier is required to submit a criminal record check prior to volunteering for delivery for the Meals on Wheels program. Please contact the MOW Client & Volunteer Support Worker at 403-320-2222 ext. 34.

COURSE INSTRUCTORS
Individuals are required from time to time to teach new skills to the membership. The programs could be in the following categories: arts/crafts, education or activity.

ADULT DAY PROGRAM
This is a special program serving individuals in the community receiving support. Compassionate volunteers help by visiting, playing cards, serving refreshments and assisting in field trips. The program runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
